Larrikin Love were an English four piece indie rock band from London.
Consisting of Edward Larrikin (vocals), Micko Larkin (guitar), Alfie Ambrose (bass) and Coz Kerrigan (drums), and also occasionally including violinist Rob Skipper from The Holloways or roving violinist Jonnie Fielding, the band were briefly described as being part of a Thamesbeat scene by the NME, a scene which is now widely accepted as having never really existed They experiment with many different styles of music including punk, reggae, calypso, and bluegrass, and tend to add something of an Irish folk flavour to the typical indie rock sound, While often compared musically to bands such as The Clash, The Pogues and The Libertines, the band drew many of their lyrical influences from literature, including writers such as Rimbaud, Wilde and Orwell.
After releasing their first two singles on the independent labels Young and Lost Club and Transgressive Records respectively, the band signed to Warner as part of a 'consultancy deal' between Warner and Transgressive. The band released their debut album, The Freedom Spark on the 25 September 2006.
On May 4, 2007 it was announced that the band had decided to split up, shortly before the release of their debut album in continental Europe. Edward is currently committed to his solo project: Pan I Am, similar to Larrikin Love in that it is rooted in Irish folk and bluegrass but different in that Ed has introduced an electronic element to his sound. Coz is currently drumming for Twickenham-based band Klezma Villanova while Micko Larkin has been working with Courtney Love and her band in Los Angeles. Alfie is painting and decorating in and around southeast London while working with his new band featuring members of the Little'uns
yes stolen from here (cant be bothred tonight) -----> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larrikin_Love
you can't mention the west coast rap scene with out mentioning San Quinn.
San Quinn Is A Bay Area Rapper from Fillmore district of San Francisco who has been rapping for more than a decade,he has always had reginal sucess but he seems content with it that way. Quinn holds the record for most appearances on different albums. He is the CEO of Done Deal Ent. which originally consisted of his brother Bailey, Big Rich, Don Toriano, Boxx Kev and Quinn's cousin Ya Boy.Ya Boy is now on the up and up and seems to be on his way to a healthy career (but thats for future blog). What you also might not know about San Quinn is he taught The multi platinum rapper The Game how to rap when The Game was early in his career.
Solo albums Dont Cross Me (1991) Live n' Direct (1994) The Hustle Continues (1996) The Mighty Quinn (2001) I Give You My Word (2004) The Rock: Pressure Makes Diamonds (2006) From a Boy to a Man (2008)
Its A shame not more people know about him out side of the westcaost or even outside of the US.I think I must be one of the very few people to know San Quinn In the UK.
I think One of his best albums is The Rock: Pressure Makes Diamonds (2006) I would reccmend buying it. www.amazon.com/Rock-Pressure-Makes-Diamonds/dp/B000BB0396
San Quinn has a new album coming out soon on SRC/Universal called 'From A Boy To A Man'
One of the most entertaining competitors from the Fight Klub battles is New Jersey native, Serius Jones. With his 6 foot 4 inch frame, quick wit, and steady array of punch lines, he literally towered over the competition. One of his well known battles was against Jin, of BET's ''Freestyle Friday'' fame. Jones gave the former member of Ruff Ryders a lyrical drubbing and left him at a lost for words, while cruising to victory and the 10,000.00 grand prize. After being crowned the undisputed champion of Fight Klub, a few labels sought the attention of the MC from the garden state. One of those being the Atlanta based Disturbing Tha Peace. Headed up by Hip-Hop superstar Ludacris, DTP offered Serius Jones a chance to be a part of their movement, and the young MC generously accepted.Sadly the deal fell through but that has not stopped him making music (new Mixtape 'Serius Bizness' will be coming out soon) with a new record deal on the horizons he should be here to stay.check out his music he is a very talented artist (this is part written by me part stolen but its late so just wanted to quickly introduce people to Serius Jones)
Serius Bizness will be available for free download Thanksgiving day on Serius Jones’ MySpace www.myspace.com/seriusjones
The Song features TK AKA Terrence Kennedy the famous skate boarder and Ice Cream Skate team captain plus member of Fly Society and other fly society member H.I.T
Cam ron's is BACK!!! after dropping his first Mixtape (Public Enemy No1) since he had a little hiatus. Cam'ron AKA Killa Cam has been a little quite well Cam has recently leaked 2 new songs from his new mixtape or might even be from his album 'Crime Pays'
Most defently taking shots at ex-diplomat members Jim Jones and Juelz on this 1st song. It's suposedly called 'Go On' but he does not say 'Go On' once in the song so right now I class it as 'untitiled' but Killa Cam kills this track(Just The DJ is Annoying).
John Cusack stars in one of his most prevlent rolls as Lloyd Dobler a under archiver who falls for the beautiful and intellegent Diane Court.Judging by me just writing that you would think its just another hollywood film like any other, well it is in a way,but it is not also as it has a realism that most films dont catch and the acting is empecible. For example you really belive his best friends are his brest friends (and there the suporting rolls) and you really do belive he has fallen for diane cort and if you have ever fallen for someone(who hasn't?) you can really undersatnd this film and connect with it, plus: if you want to pick up on how really to get a girlfriend this is the film for you). The script is strong and it wss from the 80's...you know how many good films came out then?...Quite Alot!
(ignore the 80's background music lol)
LLOYD "Look, I'm not going to meet somebody like Diane Court at a Keger. This girl was different, man. We'd go out, we wouldn't even have to go out, you know? We'd just hang out. This girl made me trust myself, man. I was walking around and I was feeling satisfied. Can you imagine that? Then she cuts me loose. I don't know why. She won't tell me. Who knows the real reason? Maybe it's because of her father, I don't know. She won't talk to me. She won't even look at me."
(Above: Wise Words)
so in conclusion rent, borrow or steal to get yourself over to watch this film, you will love it and your GF defently will.
Caddilac Tah is A Rapper from Queens,NY who has been around since the late 90's he is signed to Murder Inc/Mpire Records for more than a decade and is yet to bring out an album. At one point before 50 Cent came out and the whole Murder Inc G-unit beef he had a release date for his album 'Pov City Hustla' but with Murder Inc Indicment and arrest for drug changes and money laundering (which the case evetually fell apart) stopped his career he has been making music and brought out a mixtape called 'Pov'd Out' which are suposedly songs from his album that never came out. His Music is gritty and songs are solid, and the lyrics are always on point it just is shame he has never brought out an album.
but i think anybody who has not listend to his music should check him out.
Caddillac Tah - Pov City Anthem
Caddillac Tah - I Gotcha Ma
Caddillac Tah - Just Like A Thug
Inc Gang (Caddillac Tah,Black Child,Young Merc) - Meaner (Good Song!!)
Tigs, Will & James formed CHEW LiPS in london in early 2008.They play disco / space synth pop.I was lucky enought to watch them play at Old Blue last on Thursday in Shorditch.
As soon as the fist beat dropped you could tell it was a going to be a good performance after the first song finished .Tigs state's "I think we should all have fun..its just a suggestion!" her sugesstion was taken into consideration at that time.Chew Lips performace is excentric and entertaining with Tigs dance moves which are very unique moving to the beat of the songit almost apears like she is filming a music video up in space or something as mad. As the performance progeressed the lead singer leaped from the stage and walked through the middle of the crowd and jumped on a random audiance member whilst still singing after that she went back on stage and carried on the amazing set. Playing all Chew Lips recent songs such as 'solo' and 'eight'.I think their myspace page explains Chew Lips Style of performance the best "tigs sings & stalks the stage, while will and james wrestle casiotone beats from a drum machine & make a joyful racket on pretty much any instruments they can lay their hands on." so in conclusion we had FUN! and i recamend going to a Chew Lips performance to experence it for yourself.
